Do not make any assumptions based on a planet in a sign. That's not astrology. (Such as the inference that a cancer moon could contribute.) No.

Any sort of malformed response in a life is about specific aspects, multiple aspects, that indicate the trauma or root cause of issues in the current life.

In this case, I would look to the parental aspects, either mother or father, as trauma with either/both can lead to maladaptation. There are other factors as well. Two people with same or similar stressful aspects indicating trouble may manage that differently. Will depend on other placements in the chart, and the life experience. Does one have access to more assistance/support? Is one more able to mentally approach the problem than the other? Is mercury for one in pretty ok shape and for the other has multiple stressors? Lots of reasons.

But here is how we would use the moon (NOT by just sign). We might look to see if there was an indicator of abuse from the mother (harsh/difficult aspects with the moon in the person's natal chart). Especially if there are multiple stressors. Especially from the malefics. Having a loveless or neglectful mother can create all kinds of issues. As can abandonment, and full on emotional, physical or sexual abuse.

One can look at aspects to the sun and saturn as well, both being indicators of the father. Can even look at aspects in the natal chart that show what the native's experience of the parental marriage relationship was like. This can show what was modeled to the child in terms of man/woman relationships.

Just do not ever reduce this maladaptation to planets in signs. We look at the condition of a planet by sign, yes, but with the importance place on aspects and how that condition (dignities/debilities and all their mitigations). That is different than assigning signs to such a maladaptation.
