I think the only reason we are so obsessed with the opposite sex is that we've been inculcated with this notion life is meaningless without a partner from the day we were born.
Imagine a world where celibacy is a virtue, where value is found in invisible and transcendent things instead of earthly things, and most importantly, a world without pornography and pornographic mass media to contend with every day. Also, a world where NEETdom was actually accepted in society in the form of monasticism.
Not gonna say things were perfect and idyllic, but at least there was a place for people like us.
