When I'm focused on doing my HW, I usually go to a comfy room in the basement of the engineering building at my university.
There is this group that also frequently goes to this room to work on their homework, and they joke with each other, laugh and talk about life.

Humans are supposed to be social creatures, yet I've utterly failed at this. I have pretty severe social anxiety, so the chances of me every being able to build a network of friends is slim to none.

All I can do now is watch them from a distance as they enjoy themselves.

I tried this for a while. The spot I mentioned (was) pretty much unknown to people until the last couple of months. It gets lonely just sitting in a corner by yourself tbh. I'd rather be around people at the very least, and retain some semblance of normalcy.

It really sucks when you dream of approaching a group and socialise with them but then you realise that you can't relate or feel accepted even when you're surrounded by said group. So you put on a persona. A mask to hide the fact that you don't feel human.

I hope your case is not similar. if you can find an opening to socialise with people and you actually enjoy it. Don't waste it.

I avoid these people as much as possible. They are pure ERfuel. I never do homeworks at school for that reason, I always leave it as fast as possible.
