I think we as men need a female presence in our heads be it in real life or in our imagination. I have always had a lot of imagination so it was quite natural for me to think about an imaginary woman who conforms closely to my ideal. Anime was inspirational in that regard.

I think imagination is good cope, or at least it doesn't make things worse for me. I'd rather think of an anime who won't let me down me than of a degenerate 3d bitch who gets drunk in a nightclub.
