Initially when people recieved voting rights it was only given to wealthy landowners. This caused the government to be a conservative, hands off kind of government. This was a sustainable period of our civilisation. Taxes were probably at their lowest due to small goverment. For the average Joe however life was tough.
Then men got the vote. In this period, men headed the family and this ensured that the family unit were the primary voters. This resulted in a medium sized government and moderate taxes. This was the golden era of modern civilisation sparking much innovation as the state served families in order to be re-elected.
Eventually women got the vote and this resulted in governments pandering to women exclusively and the family unit holding no sway in government. This then facilitated feminism and the breaking down of the family unit which was catalysed by World War 2. Individualism was now the focus of the government and spending increased beyond the federal income and caused an exponential increase in debt. This is unsustainable and will result in disgruntled individuals, mainly men, who simply no longer form part of this new society. Quintessentially, it was over before you were even born.
