With the recent comeback of virtual reality in the form of head mounted displays such as the oculus rift, htc vive and ps vr. It's not too far fetched to imagine a world where tecnology advances far enough to the point where vr becomes a fully immersive environment as realistic as our own world. I'm sure I don't need to spell out the benifits such tech would have for the average person, including incels. Imagine not just seeing but touching, smelling and talking to a virtual wifu or a recreation of your oneitis in her prime or a harem of virtual women!! There would be no risks of std, no chance of being cucked, no risk of divorce and child support payments and of course no chance of being rejected. Basically what my point Is, I want to see fully immersive vr become a reality within my lifetime. I don't care how they do it so long as it's possible.

Have you seen the pace of progress in video game graphics, VR displays and robotics?

It will still feel moderately fake until 2035 I think, but I do believe a realistic simulation of a human is possible in our lifetime. This will probably involve a sexbot equipped with sensors, along with a VR display and simulation software.

Progress in 1800-1900 was about new ways to access and use energy, progress in 1900-2000 was about new ways to store and transmit information, progress in 2000-2100 will be about exponential manipulation of information (Big Data, AI, genome engineering, etc.)

I don't know man, progress in AI has been pretty intense recently (though clearly not as intense as what idiotic journalists think), Nvidia and Intel are still pushing the limits of transistors every year, Google and IBM now have quantum computers ready (what is still lacking is software that can exploit them), billions are being poured into next-gen health research by ruthless billionaires like Bezos, Elison or Thiel who are determined not to die, VR headsets and displays in general keep improving every year, etc.

We basically have the high-tech tools to alter nearly everything on Earth now (computing and big data, electron microscopes, dna sequencers, dna editors), we just need to exploit them, this is purely an issue of effort, workers and time now. So we are clearly in a frustrating situation at the present moment, with a lot of promises and untapped potential, that I agree with you on. But I do have the belief that it will progress sooner than what you expect, in part due to the influx of capital from Silicon Valley and the strong promethean nature of the current Chinese government.

The original definition of AI encompasses narrow intelligence and adaptive algorithms (eg the AI, even simple, in a computer game).

Ahh excellent! It's always nice to see one of my post's from some time ago come back to light. I made this particular thread in 2018, four years ago..

Since then a few interesting developments have occurred that I couldn't have foreseen. Mainly the covid pandemic that of 2020 and how it has effected the availability of current hardware.

Case and point, The PlayStation 5, new Xbox and the latest computer graphic cards have all been in short supply since the outbreak. I hear the PS5 won't be in store shelves until 2024! A sad development indeed, as I'm a huge PlayStation fan. But it'll also slow down the release of things like say the PS5 pro and beyond.

As for virtual reality itself, things have slowly been progressing with oculus quest 3 rumored to be releasing sometime soon, I'm personally more excited over the release of the PlayStation VR 2 for the PS5 that will also be releasing soon sometime this year.

So progress is happening... Just not at an exponential rate unfortunately. So it's still some times away before we have something really breath taking like from sword art online where you feel and actually believe the virtual world is reality and not just a head mounted display. Nonetheless I can reasonably hope that I may yet see it come to fruition as I am 29yo as of 2022 and so still have a ways to go until the long slumber. I have high hopes for what this technology will evolve into in the years and decades to come. I also still stand by my original post and what it would mean for people that are social deprived.
