I'm going to sound like the most pretentious gatekeeper, but old games are best left with moderate amounts of revivalism. The case being that when too many people bandwagon said games without having the true passion for creating top tier content, the genre becomes oversaturated with subpar custom content. It becomes harder and harder to readily find something that is worth your time playing. Whereas when the vast majority of creators are veterans with decades of experience, nearly every idea brainstormed by a collective is quality. Case in point, Doom. Back when I was a teenager in the mid 2010's, I would have so much fun playing wads that received top praise from the Cacowards. But all of a sudden, Doom 2016 and Eternal came out. Which weren't exactly bad games by themselves, but the nincompoops flooded the interwebz. All of a sudden, the number of people in the Doomworld forum and Doom reddit inflated exponentially. Normies invaded a perfectly fine community, and tainted the obscurity and exclusivity of the boomer shooter. Now, a large percentage of people looking to replay Doom in multiple formats are only interested in inferior titles such as the unbalanced, over the top Brutal Doom, and Project Brutality. Slaughter wads also received an increased amount of attention, even thought the level design in them is lazy and sophomoric.
Thankfully, it does not seem like Quake is at that level yet. But thanks to the remaster, it is only a matter of time before it de-evolves.
