Discussion Using digital ocean without domain?

Lately i host my personal stuff on digitalocean, almost all i host in here is api backend. Do you think i need to buy domain or should i just use IP public for hit api in my frontend?

Don't they give you some kind of a 3rd level domain for free? I thought it was what most of those companies (heroku etc.) did...

Besides there are usually some shit TLD that offer domain names for like $1 for the 1st year - I found NameCheap to be the best registrar for those, but there are plenty of them, just don't use godaddy, it's crap

Heroku giving "free" 3rd level domain because they're Paas meanwhile digitalocean don't because it is a vps.

Currently i always buy domain on my local hosting provider, but that's like a good suggestion from you for buy domain on namecheap. Thanks!
