Say one country has a normal corporate tax rate of 20%. And you sell $10 billion in product and expenses $7.5 billion to make $2.5 billion in profits during a boom in prices. So the net profit is $2.0 billion after taxes.

Now the country raises the corporate tax rate with windfall taxes to 50%. The corporation then raises the prices by 15% so its revenues are $11.5 billion. And then since expenses are still $7.5 billion, that is $4.0 billion in profits before taxes, minus the 50% to taxes, is $2.0 billion in profits after taxes.

Then since the prices for energy rose by 15% over night, the government subsidizes this for people which costs $1.5 billion. Which is the increased amount of taxes they got from the windfall taxes. The government also uses this opportunity to give the subsidies mainly to groups who are most loyal politically to the government like minorities and single moms, and not to the hated normies who demanded the tax.

Luckily no normies are ever smart enough to figure this out. It is multiple levels of abstraction too complex for them. But they are darned happy and cheering so hard to see those rich bastards paying the windfall taxes. Which the rulers have gotten smart enough to let the people celebrate, and even the smart rulers they act all sad and beg for the windfall tax to be lifted.. to which the normies all shout.. Never! and roar with triumphal laughter.

typical story of socialism :feelsdevil:

democracy ultimately leads to stupidity like that. universal suffrage which gave foids votes, preceded by giving all men the ability to vote while initially voting was limited to people with some wealth

Ya what governments have figured out is the way to get around democracy is by complexity.

An example is foreign buyers tax on houses. The normies and foids assume it means that people born in a foreign country who buy real estate in their country pay high taxes. But what is the definition of foreign buyer. Well I could write a 50 page document that no normie will ever read, where no one on Earth falls under the definition of foreign buyer. Everyone would qualify for one or another exemption. In each exemption it would use legal language that is confusing and normies would have to read further documents to understand the meaning of each word and the exemptions in those.

But I could go on tv and announce that I just passed a 25% tax on foreign buyers of property as part of my plan to make housing more affordable.

And people would be happy that I was taking action so foreigners weren't driving up the price of housing.

this is happening in EU right now. Germany wont buy Russian oil and gas but France will. Come autumn/winter Germany will buy the oil and gas from France and the normies will be so happy that Germany does not buy Russian resources and cheer on the price hikes. But too dumb to realise that either way Putin gets his cash either way regardless of what fantasy the hollywood media bamboozle them with.

Then what happens is the high energy prices remain in Germany and the idiot normies are none the wiser.

Its the whole art of statecraft today is to pursue the state policies you actually want, while making it seem like you are doing what the people want. In France, Russia is a lot more popular so probably the French people don't want to sanction Russian oil & gas.

Once you get beyond normies and foids ability to think in the abstract with complexity, then you can do whatever you want without them understanding it.

Something I read about in Europe is it is big majorities in some of the nations which basically want communism. But the rulers they know communism isn't sustainable plus they don't want to lose their fortunes. So what they have to do is always make it seem like they are going to communism one step at a time. But in actuality they aren't moving.

One way to do that is say you have 10 pieces of legislation that are changes. And 3 are for more government, 3 for less government and 4 neutral. The big news stories are the 3 moving to more government and showing all the right wingers arguing against it and warning everybody the problems with it.. and then the socialist party leader forcing it through anyway to the cheers of the masses and tears of the right wingers.

Meanwhile the 3 pieces of legislation that are to less government just aren't covered.
