At the last place I worked I had a really good work friend I would hang out with in the office. I'm married, he has a fiance, I thought it was pretty straightforward that we were friends. We mostly just talked about video games, complained about our boss, in addition to the projects we were actually on together.
I left the company 6 months ago and we've kept in touch through facebook, mostly him updating me on the projects I was on and some office gossip.
Today we were catching up and I said something along the lines of "I miss hanging out with you all, it was great." To which I got "yeah, I loved that. Well loved and hated that. I had a huge crush on you, you made me so nervous when you were around."
What! I honestly just thought he was an awkward nerd. Am I just as awkward for not seeing it? I didn't know how to respond so I did the generic "lol ok then" He said he figured it couldn't hurt being honest now. I shut it down immediately with "hey man, you're my friend. Nothing more." But I feel awful. Why do I have to feel like garbage for saying something that should be obvious? How many guys are secretly crushing on me and I'm leading them on? wtf...

Instead of her responding "lol sorry I meant the other way, I still got my boyfriend teehe sorry", she just said "lol ok then" like she's mad at him for being interested in her.

also lol at this comment

hey, I feel you. It’s hard! I read somewhere once that you should think of yourself and talk to yourself the way you’d speak to your best friends. Encouraging, positive, compassionate.

When I’m kind to myself I can appreciate all the good things about me, and feel confident in them. It’s too easy to spend all your time tearing yourself down and very hard to feel confident that way.

Wow it's so hard to get a lot of validation.

He has a fiance (probably married now). Not incel anymore.

She should've been offended, he had a woman and her a man.

>has a fiance

doesnt matter tho

hypergamy in action

Damn that's brutal. She thinks she's above "awkward nerds" so feels shocked one could have a crush on her. Atleast that's how it came across from her reaction.
