The West doesn't really fear Russia.. this is already evident from the fact that arms deliveries to Ukraine alone are sufficient to keep Russia in check. Russia is militarily significantly weaker than the West and couldnt withstand a direct conflict with NATO. The only real threat is Russia's nuclear weapons, but even this "card" has become dull. The Russian leadership is aware that the use of nuclear weapons would result in massive retaliation. What holds the West back are rather economic interests.
