Romeo, Romeo! Wherefore art thou Romeo?

:chad::chad::feelspuke:

Now is the winter of our discontent

Is this a dagger which I see before me, the handle toward my hand?

Select a quote from Shakespeare or other writer and translate.

Top marks to anyone who can translate the World War One Wilfred Owen poem, Dulcee et Decorum Est.

To be blunt, I highly doubt anyone gives a fuck about Shakespeare around here.

‘Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears: I come to bury Caesar, not to praise him.’
(Julius Caesar, Act 3, Scene 2)

‘Cry “havoc!” and let slip the dogs of war‘
(Julius Caesar, Act 3, Scene 1)

Moderate lamentation is the right of the dead, excessive grief the enemy to the living.
(Lafew, Act 1 Scene 1)

Service is no heritage.

To children ardent for some desperate glory,
The old Lie: Dulce et decorum est
Pro patria mori. ("How sweet and honourable it is to die for one's country")

(Dulce et Decorum est is a poem written by Wilfred Owen during World War I)

If music be the food of love, play on,
Give me excess of it; that surfeiting,
The appetite may sicken, and so die.

Sorry for offending you. I won't post on this thread anymore. I don't read Reddit.

But how is it a couple dozen of emojis can cover all of Shakespear's best know quotes?

I mean he is regarded as the greatest writer in the English language.

No, I don't forgive you.

They can't.

What's your ranking of Shakespeare plays you have read?
I've only read Macbeth at school. Watched on film Polanksi's Macbeth, Julius Caesar, Othello, Hamlet and Henry V. I've been to a play house to watch Macbeth. I liked them all equally at the time.

I've seen posts on this site that match or exceed (on the Blackpill) Shakespeare when it comes to describing human nature. I apologise for any offense given if you are an admirer of Shakespeare.

Do you think Shakespeare covered the Blackpill in his plays?

What have you read or watched? Any recommendations?

Get thee to a nunnery. Farewell. Or, if thou wilt needs marry, marry a fool, for wise men know well enough what monsters you make of them. To a nunnery go, and quickly too.

kind of. hamlet says a lot of blackpilled things.
What have you read or watched? Any recommendations?
i read all of them except the comedies.
i like richard ii (not iii) and measure for measure.
the bbc hollow crown adaptations of his histories are good.
kenneth branaugh's hamlet is a good movie, and Coriolanus (2011).
also throne of blood and ran, but they aren't good adaptations, just good movies.

The gods gave you two hands, and you use them both for your weapon. I can respect that.

Fuck me.

Every time I start thinking this place is just pepe memes, weeb postmaxxing and edgelords, some utter fucking scholar-and-gentleman-cel comes along and delivers something of culture like this. :feelsYall:

But I, that am not shaped for sportive tricks,
Nor made to court an amorous looking-glass;
I, that am rudely stamp'd, and want love's majesty
To strut before a wanton ambling nymph;
I, that am curtail'd of this fair proportion,
Cheated of feature by dissembling nature,
Deformed, unfinish'd, sent before my time
Into this breathing world, scarce half made up,
And that so lamely and unfashionable
That dogs bark at me as I halt by them;
Why, I, in this weak piping time of peace,
Have no delight to pass away the time,
Unless to spy my shadow in the sun
And descant on mine own deformity:
And therefore, since I cannot prove a lover,
To entertain these fair well-spoken days,
I am determined to prove a villain
And hate the idle pleasures of these days.
