1. PS3
Extremely cheap and easy enough to mod. If hacked you get access to thousands of games from PS3/PS2/PS1.
2. Wii/Wii U
Both are cheap. If you mod them you get access to the full Wii (or Wii u) library plus the GameCube library. (Although you'll have to buy accessories for Wii u)
3. Ps Vita
Extremely cheap handheld. If modded you get access to both the vita/PSP library. Has a nice oiled screen and hall sticks
4. 3ds
I would put it higher if the prices weren't so inflated. It's not really worth anything over $200 imo. If you can get one for $200 or under it's worth it due to the vast library you'll have access to.

Looking at the auctions i can see 3ds being much more expensive than Wii/U for some reason. Some are under $200 but full of flaws like scratches, broken buttons or card readers being wonky or not working at all and dude with 2/3 flaws said that his console's quality is "very good" i don't want to see his console with quality of "very poor" it would explode in your hands and kill you and your entire family.

Yeah, it's not worth it unless you import from Japan. Don't give these losers money for selling an OG non new model for nearly $200.

Get a decent PC and you will be able to emulate all of those consoles.

Even PS4 and xbox one emulation is now possible.

Dell Optiplex for a few bucks on eBay and stick some low power GPU in there used to be the poorfag method of gaming.

There are so many amazing machines tbh. Every console generation has absolute gems. I think the biggest problem though is that a lot of them have packed up by now.

With that in mind... I'd say the 360 and Wii (for Gamecube games mainly) are solid bets now.

For handheld... PSP or DS Lite I think.
