To me, happiness is a meme. People chase it endlessly without realizing that their brains are going to continually move the goalpost as soon as they think they've reached it. It's something that we construct as a future achievement, or a lost past state which we're remembering incorrectly. Ultimately, happiness only exists as a concept which our minds use to give us motivation, false hope, to press on into the future.

However by happiness I'll just take it that you mean contentment.

Contentment is the absence suffering, in all of it's forms.
