i've recently been watching gameplay footage of the original mirrors edge, not that shitty, necessary reboot from 2016 that nobody wanted.
i mentioned it in a thread on games i used to love, but i'll never play again.

but despite that, theres something about the game that draws me back to it.
even though i've not played it in years and said i'll never play it again, because i don't like games with foid protags.

many others love this game from 2008 too and it has a massive fanbase online.
if you look around, you'll see shitloads of fanart and videos on yt on why people love this game.
the musics also fucking sweet too.

funnily enough, mirrors edge was a bit of a marmite game for some people when it first came out.

but its uniqueness and originally of the game being a first person parkour platformer really made it stand out from the others back in 2008.
even though mirrors edge sold enough units to be profitable, the game never got a sequel, even though it ended on a big clifhanger.
instead, EA released a reboot to the game in 2016, which is weird because at that point, mirrors edge wasn't even a decade old.
unfortunately, seems like mirrors edge is just another dead IP that EA will never use and instead horde forever so no one else can do anything with it.

seeing mirrors edge now, its pretty surreal to see how gaming and the culture surrounding it has changed.
it was certainly a lot better back in 2008, then how it is in 2025, so the game feels a little like a product of its time.

Good, to an extent. The gunplay isn't as bad as everyone says. I personally liked the parkour, but it felt so forced and handed. The story, I just skipped over :feelshehe:

Good game but hard as fuck. To this day I still don't know how I managed to beat it.

i've not played the game since i was like 13, so i don't remember how the gunplay was.
the game was a bit pain in the assy to control at first when i played it.
i also remember JFLing at the fact that you can make faith fall on her ass.

That one part where you're being chased by a bunch of guys in black was scary.

Oh yeah, the game mapped jump to LB, if I recall right. It's weird and IMO should NOT be played on console. Pretty awkward in that way. Pc though is good

it's on my back log i'll get to playing it one day

I was thinking of getting it, gameplay seemed engaging and fun

Looking very stylish but gameplay bored me i would rather be using guns than just your body and avoid encounters so i never finished it

fucking music hurts, idk reminds me of the 2000s, the pic too
shit gave me existential dread, wish i could live forever and experience all these time periods, like time traveling in spectator mode

I remember playing it and liking it but it was so long ago idk if I'd have the same opinion

the games not even long, i've seen full walkthroughs on yt of people beating the game in 2 hours

I thought the original was fairly good. It was a decent attempt at a fairly novel concept.

But I never played the reboot. I remember hearing bad things about it.

Good game, graphics are amazing for it's time especially on high end devices that can run it full graphics now. Story was meh okay liked Merc he was a good character not so much Faith's sister Kate. The parkour was nice if you can time it correctly and get the rythm going but i sometimes messed up on falls or wall jumps.

same, modern culture sucks now.

same we never got a true sequel, only a reboot nobody asked for or remembers.
i can imagine them adding new shit in a mirrors edge 2 like co-op, lockpicking minigames and stealth takedown rooms like in the arkham games.

looks really cool. has been in my library collecting virtual dust for years

Same, and I’d like to see her enter an eating contest and overeat to the point she can barely keep it down
i would not want her to step on my balls though, like what she does to the mc of her series

pretty fun. the first one is better but i didn't mind catalyst tbh.

Is fun to play on speedrun. I did platinum on ps3

Oh was the sequel not good?

I think I can deal with female protagonists in games where I'm confident that it wasn't done for political reasons.

Mirror's Edge... yeah it was pretty fun. Some of the mechanics are a bit clunky but when you look at the state of modern gaming maybe it doesn't matter.
