Since 2021, I made it my tradition to post on Facebook for the New Year. Yesterday was my 5th consecutive post. I make long posts where I include sharing brief stories of what I did the previous year and sharing my plans for the new year. The problem is, almost all the people who comment on my posts just greet me Happy New Year. Like, did anyone actually read my long post? Almost none of the comments discuss anything relevant to my posts, other than the New Year.
I have to explain that having Facebook doesn't make me a fakecel. I live in the Philippines and here, having Facebook is the standard. We usually contact each other through Messenger.
The reason why I am calling them sheep is this. I think some of them did read my long post. But because no one is commenting on any of the many things I said, they are too shy to be the first one to do it. So they just follow the crowd by greeting me a happy new year. That is sheep mentality! And it fucking infuriates me. I know I am not like that and here are examples why.
Many years ago, I saw on a documentary show on TV an experiment where there were a sizeable amount of people in a big room and they were tasked to continuously walk. They were allowed to walk anywhere in the room. But what happened? They gravitated each other. There was this circular mass somewhere in the center of the room where people walked near each other. No one dared venturing outside that mass. I knew if I was in that experiment, I would definitely walk away from the crowd.
I do have proof that I am not a sheep. When I was in high school and the sports fest was coming, we were given the privilege to choose our jersey numbers. Almost all of the students picked a number below 30. Because they were sheep! I definitely wasn't. I picked 91! I was one of the very few students to pick a high number.
I'm sure my mentality comes for a large part from my autism. People tend to think that being different is wrong. But very often for us autists, and I'm sure some of the users here would agree, it feels like we're the right ones despite soyciety condemning us.
