I'm very pro-life so I generally support the idea of society taking care of the disabled. The only thing I think that should be changed is where surgeons intervene at the birth of a severely disabled infant to 'save' its life, when it would naturally pass away if it didn't recieve drastic surgery. For example, I know of some Downs Sydrome kids who have actually been resuscitated after dying shortly after birth and then given dozens of operations to keep them alive. I actually believe that it is an evil act to to do that because the infant already died and you brought it back to life and made all kinds of alterations to it so that it can ultimately live a life of continual suffering.

But if the infant is able to actually live without intervention from the start (i.e., it's basic metabolic functions are intact) then society should support it. The ultimate reason for this is that I believe the vast majority og congenital defects are caused by avoidable factors, e.g., mother's age, diet, smoking, drinking, stress, environmental toxins, etc. So, the only way to ever acknowledge that is to confront the brutal consequences (i.e., the disabled) and work out a way to avoid repeating those mistakes.
