I've heard of the brazen bull - it's a seriously fucked up way to die, and I wish it was fucking used, tbh. I'm pretty fucking damn sure it would be a HUGE deterrent by just knowing what punishment awaits
A foid - a saint by the name of Pelagia of Tarsus in about 300 AD - was allegedly killed this way. If brought back (likely never), but if brought back, I doubt this method would be used on foids (examples why I think so: foids are not caned in Singapore, foids are not executed in Russia, etc). This shows that people in ancient times/early medieval times did not give foids gentle exceptions.
