There is advantages to having lighter skin in cooler climates, but they don't apply to the year 2019.

Light skin allows less sunlight is needed for vitamin D absortion, wich allowys healthier bone development in pale people over darker skinned people that live in cooler climates. But today we can get all our vitamin d from food stuffs.
