Mainly my increasing disinterest in Christianity, and didn't help that my mom was forcing it down my throat. She would get angry if I even suggested that I didn't want to be a Christian anymore, I was pretty rebellious at the time so I started to do the opposite.

I think that there is no future for us in the christian world. Our misery is already described in 4 canonical gospels of the New testament. Listen to a bible audio yourself with an open mind. You can't become a christian, since according to the text itself you must be born again and all the practitlces you see that are claimed to "christian" are not scriptual.
True Christian ethics is fundamentally opposed to hope and satisfaction of desires.
It calls for a hard way of life (asceticism), taking up the cross and renunciation to all things.
