If it is any consolation, you mostly stop caring after awhile. I am a corporatecel as I work in an office, and I also go to the gym daily.

I have a cat for company, and I also used to have a dog, but he died of cancer a few years ago.

One "cope" if you could call it that, is realizing that many couples are actually quite miserable because they are stuck in bad or abusive relationships. When I hear some of the tenants in my apartment complex screaming at each other through the walls from domestic arguments, I think that perhaps being single isn't so bad after all.

It is hard to say. I like my cat as he is very cuddly and friendly, even if he plays a bit rough, sometimes. There is a surprising amount of crossover in behaviors between an affectionate cat and an affectionate dog.

I never got another dog after my previous one as I like big dogs, and my current apartment does not allow dogs over 30 pounds. I would rather have a cat than a cat-sized dog and my last dog was a Labrador mix at around 85 pounds.
