The Wii U is not a bad console. In fact arguably it's a great console and a massive improvement over the Wii. There is many positive elements of the Wii U
• Despite not having a large library it does have many good games such as Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze, Pikmin 3, Mario 3D World, Mario Kart 8, and others. It's funny so many "game critics" act like Wii U has a bad library while they gush over the switch's library and place Wii U ports as some of the best switch games on their lists
• it's extremely affordable. Unlike the switch Wii U games don't cost an arm and a leg. (or at least they didn't used to) Nintendo continued the Nintendo selects line like they did with the Wii which meant most best sellers would end up $20 in a few years. Not only that but controllers were affordable and accessible due to being able to use Wii controllers with most games.
• Retro. Unlike the Nintendo switch where you have to pay an online subscription to play games from older Nintendo consoles which are slowly dropped out, you could actually purchase older games on Wii U for fair prices via virtual console. Wii U expanded virtual console to include DS and GBA games which you could all play for discounted prices. They even released Wii games for around $20 each digitally. Something Nintendo would never do today.
• modding. If you mod a Wii u it has full native compatibility with both Wii and GameCube
Imo the reason Wii U has such a bad reputation is because of herd mentality. It financially failed so many hated on it just because they saw it was unpopular and uncool. The same faggots who trashed it soyed out as soon as switch was released with the same games
It's a shame the Wii U which was high effort was punished sales wise. Meanwhile the switch's low effort has been rewarded leading Nintendo to be lazier and greedier.
