I am not an American but I have lived there briefly. In American High school, soccer is considered more of a girls’ sport as it is not full body contact. Boys play American football and girls play soccer, generally. Hence, more girls play it and there is a much larger talent pool to select from in America than in other countries.
In contrast, in Europe and South America soccer is seen as a more masculine pursuit, particularly here in England where is soccer/football is associated with working class men.
