I personally believe that civilizations have long cycles where periods of patriarchal order are interrupted by episodes of revolution based on sexual liberation and possibly matriarchal order. Those cycles are just too long to figure in historical records, but maybe that's what the long Mayan cycles are about.

The Mayans did predict the end of the world in 2012 after all, didn't they ?

I don't think so. in the last 100 years, surviving has become much much easier than it ever was before. societies in the past were too concerned with war/survival to have any kind of feminist revolution. this may be a phenomenon we will see in the future though.
