All groups have their own slang or jargon. The reason for the terms is to simplify communication. If I'm talking about games, I might use the term "meta" and the usefulness of that term is that I don't have to explain that I'm talking about a tactic, and that I believe it's effective - I just use the term and everyone understands me.
It simplifies communication. It's efficient. The fact that you consider it cringe is irrelevant. It's useful.
"These people" are on-topic in this forum. You come to a forum where this is on-topic and you complain that people are discussing things that are on topic.
That's as retarded as if you went to a car forum and whined, "all you guys talk about is cars" - no, cars are not *all* they talk about ...it's just what they talk about in the car forum.
