Part 1: What is the Simulacrum?

A definition of simulacrum from the book Simulacra and Simulation, authored by Jean Baudrillard, published in 1981:

The simulacrum is never what hides the truth - it is truth that hides the fact that there is none. The simulacrum is true

Baudrillard claims this definition was originally from the Book of Ecclesiastes, but I've not seen any passage that even remotely matches up to it

Basically the simulacrum is the “truth” that concurrently conceals the absence of the “truth” that the simulacra is supposed to mimic

If there was ever a “truth”, it was lost and replaced by an imitation of it, such that it became difficult to differentiate the “truth” from its own replica

The
simulacrum is the replication of the “truth” that effectively becomes the “truth” after the original “truth” is lost. The “truth” morphs into simulacra

The simulacrum implies that “reality” has been substituted with certain abstractions (e.g., pictures, validation, symbols, fantasy). These abstractions serve to obscure the insignificance of “reality” in the experience of the humankind. The abstract is treated as though it were real

Part 2: Simulacra & Individualism

The connection between the
simulacra and individualism is how people in employment (especially modern women) tend to allow their sense of self-importance to be influrenced by career accomplishments in the corporate world, or validation on social media (I got a new certificate / award, my work was featured in this article, I gained a million followers, my video on YouTube or TikTok got thosands of likes, I got a pay rise etc.) These accomplishments are equivalent of the abstractions (pictures, symbols, validation), all of which are simulacra. Even pornography and some video games (like RPGs) are simulacra

Relating to individualism in modernity, the "simulacra" is equivalent of the corporate world and the online social media environment that is sustained and supported mostly by normies and women. This simulacra is the current "reality" of the human world

Becky received the Chad Moggins Philanthropy Award 2025? Norman got featured in an article published on GNN (Goyslop Network News)? The trophies, medals and sheets of decorated paper - they only obscure the absence of a non-superficial reality while causing normies and females to feel important
. These awards and certificates are abstractions that have no observable effect in the physical world. All they do is stimulate ego and boost social standing. Yet normie and foid recipients of these awards / certificates will treat them as a significant event that applies to a meaningful reality - a "reality" which is this simulacra they created

As a result of individualist culture, people manufacture “purpose” that is self-oriented and focuses on one’s perceived self-worth and accomplishments in the corporate domain or social milieu. Normies and females hold themselves in high esteem for living up to the benchmarks of the simulacra

As normies and females will also validate each other for supporting the simulacra, it eventually turns into a massive circlejerk. Normies and women will give each other pats on the shoulder (i.e., job promotions, pay rises, hitting like buttons on social media content, giving each other trophies and medals in award ceremonies, being mentioned in an article) for doing essentially nothing that has any remarkable effect other than boosting their own status / their own ranking in the simulacra

Part 3: Individualism has its Roots in the Glorification of Simulacra

Individualism is very concentrated on materialistic ideals, deriving from the glorification of the simulacra – the simulacra created by normies and women
. Sometimes validation can be a motivator for usefulness to society, it can translate to a demand for a product / service which can be provided by someone who has the means to provide it. But it’s not always the case that validation encourages things that will benefit society in the long run; validation can also brew obnoxious traits like vanity, main character syndrome, apathy etc.

Anyhow individualism has the potential to destabilize a civilization over the long term – It can cause people to become more socially divided and heavily focused on individualist goals over community goals, such as “career progress” and “becoming wealthier or more accomplished than their contemporaries”. Animosity brews, community becomes divided, class / gender conflict intensifies

Individualism ultimately creates a culture where people are less co-operative and constantly competing with each other. It has the power to cause social cohesion to weaken, and cause a people to become more vulnerable to subversion by prospective conquerors
(e.g., foreign empires with advanced tech and powerful militaries, high IQ people with massive amounts of capital at their disposal). Individualism is massively enabled by normies and their immersion in the simulacra of the modern world
