So guys, this is my experience. I go to church and we have a monthly men's group. These are good, upstanding men, all of whom are successful and in their 30s or so. One of the guys owns a business, another is a very successful coder. He even owns a plane. And yet, out of all the guys there, younger and older, all of us are still struggling with being single. Only one guy is married. One guy, his name is Eric, has worked hard his entire life, is upstanding, loves God, and the he's been sort of dating this lady who is... totally schizo. That's it. The best that this upstanding guy could do is a schizo with daddy issues who hides under the bed when a thunderstorm rolls in. It is just so hopeless.

He’s most likely a codependent that mistakes enabling behavior as empathy and love and that tolerates her slack and dysfunction in order to keep the relationship going.

He probably also believes that being a martyr and sacrificing his own happiness for her makes him righteous in the eyes of god and that he’s a true caring empath for doing so.

What he actually is, is a self destructive, enabling fool that is ruining his life.

“My people perish for lack of knowledge”-Hosea 4:6
