I think it has much more to do with the skull particularly the skull length and neoteny.

Its the reason why northern chinese, koreans, and yakonids look much better than southeast asians.

If you've ever seen short skulled vietnamese, filipinos, and cambodians you know how ugly their faces are.

Same with nordics vs other groups of caucasians. Nordics have longer/broader skulls and have more neoteny relative to other caucasians. Large eyes + big head. Plus a big head isn't just for looks.
