The only reason you anti-suicide propaganda being pushed so heavily into the mainstream isn't because of humanitarianism, empathy, or whatever the fuck. On a personal level, someone you know commits suicide, it may be shitty, but you move on, it's human nature for you to move on. Within a year you're back living your life.
It has a much greater effect on the government. The average personal income in 2016 was 31,099$, and the number of suicides in 2017 was 47,173. Doing simple math, we can deduce that those 47k people that committed suicide would have made around 14,670,331,027 million dollars. Of course this number changes each year, but in general the income of people who committed suicide is 14-15 million.
Now, of course the government loves taxes. So let's say they take off 12 percent in tax. That's around 1,760,439,732 dollars of tax money lost a year due to suicide. And that is only one year, that number will continue to amount overtime.
That may not seem like much to the government, but the US is 22 trillion dollars in debt, and they don't want to be losing millions of dollars in tax money because people off'ed themselves, or risk letting that number rise. Notice how when the 2000's started, and the debt started to rise, mental health became something extremely important, being discussed in schools, the workplace, media, etc? People think "OMG guys we r becomin moar progresiv and carin about mentul helth moar!!!!"
LOL No. It's all about money, and government greed. Always has been and always will be.
