Compare RE4 to RE4 remake

1000008518

RE4 remake is so unnecessary cluttered with obsessive details. Every inch has to have something or other going on. It ends up looking worse than the original which appears more cinematic due.

The lighting in classic games was also better. New games are obsessed with realistic lighting which ends up looking shitty because the graphics themselves aren't realistic enough. Classic games would use preset lightning to compliment the games visuals and what's happening on screen. Which looks better to you?

New looks better mane. Credit needs to be given where it'd due.

Nah I disagree

The new ones look better

Be thankful it's not the same pajeet coded stuttering unreal 5 slop they push into every other game.

I agree with you that overall the OG looks better. It is more balanced, for lack of better words.

It reminds me if the original Crash Bandicoot series vs the remaster.
The character models in the remaster look horrible, plasticy and things like sand look very bad.
They've messed up big time.

The problem with the srutrer in Unreal Engine games is that the devs didn't learn to properly use it.
This actually sepeerates the good from the bad devs.

I was thinking about the same thing. I watched this comparison the other day.

The originals have better lightning and aesthetic. They had to to compensate for the ps1's limitations. I feel as if the developers of Insane Trilogy assumed that because their graphics were more advanced they wouldn't have to put in as much effort into lighting (or maybe they wanted to show them off) so everything is extremely bright and washed out.

They discarded the more stylized cartoonish environments of the original trilogy so a lot of the levels actually look worse and outdated. The original looks like a cartoon. The remake looks like one of those shitty unreal engine fan remakes you'd see on YouTube.

Capcom isn't good at optimizing games either. Resident Evil is well optimized because the engine was designed for Resident Evil. Other games that use the engine suffer more issues.

I don't like this high contrast trend, they often trying to hide problems with graphics by increasing contrast so you can't see much in shadows. S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2 is good example, when people modded the game to get rid of that high contrast, low dynamic range preset many issues with graphics became visible.

All these problems come down to unreal engine being poorly optimized by untalented devs. It's become a massive handicap and it's leading to incompetent lazy devs

The problem is they hire artists, writers and designers who just know their way around unreal engine, and not engineers. But that's only half of the story. Because actual designs, story and gameplay these people typically create tend to suck the big one as well.

The graphics obsession with soy gamers has really been toxic to game development. I swear that older games felt more memorable in part due to the fact that our brains can more easily process neutral lighting and like you said scenes uncluttered with unnecessary bullshit

They need to understand that video games aren't real life. Trying to make video games look like real life almost never works. Our eyes aren't naturally going to focus on what we want to like IRL. It makes video games unnecessarily annoying to play.

Artists simply aren't equipped for producing modern 3D designs that stand out. They think high fidelily = good design

I would take story and gameplay over graphics any day.

I get what some of you are saying about modern graphics and I agree. I just couldn't put it into words properly.

realistic graphics<<<devoted craftsmanship

I'd much prefer poorer graphics where the team is devoted to giving the game style in other ways than an assembly line of hundreds of people slaving over CG. Honestly this analogy is really for movies but the logic is the same.

Realistic looking films/games don't dazzle audiences like they used to. You'll have the typical spergs obsessing over graphics but I can't remember the last game where many people were super hyped on "breakthrough" graphics
