Outside the venue were protesters (this is how unpopular Ted Cruz was, if you don't know of him), which Patty Pooper kept insisting the left-wing media would exaggerate to portray the event in a negative light. Sure, whatever nutso.
After a pompous introduction, Ted Cruz got on stage and delivered a litany of buzz-phrases. Nothing of substance was mentioned, it was all vague 'bring back republican values' shit. The whole event played out like a rock concert, with booming music and mob euphoria.
The most obnoxious part was the crowd constantly shouting and cheering in support, especially Patty Pooper. She even did that Christian concert thing of raising her hands above her head, while nodding with closed eyes. "Yes! Yes! Woooo!"
After Ted Cruz was done speaking, he went down to take pictures with his fans (not kidding). I tried to get in position to take the picture of Patty Pooper with Ted Cruz, but a guard spotted me with my DSLR and mistook me for press. The guard forcibly ushered me to the corner of the room, behind a velvet rope. Patty Pooper was led somewhere else, so afterwards it took me about 30 minutes to find her.
When I found Patty Pooper she made sure to tell me how handsome Ted Cruz was.
