The problem with this kind of flaunting of curry culture is that non-curry people got to witness all the cringe, filth, and sorry state of curryland. They visited curryland and realized that bollywood and 7% a year economic growth were both heavily marketed lies, with the reality being much much darker.

There have been rich curries, but the number was small. The early NRIs who sought to establish themselves in the West were small, but as their wealth grew over generations, they sponsored more and more of their family members who in turn got established in the West, bringing about a cascading effect. Generational wealth adds up.
