I usually see people ascribe to two ideologies. The duality of determinism or fate and free will but I believe it's a fake duality. Determinism doesn't make sense since it's practically impossible to determine if things that happen are fated to happen.
Free will on the other hand is not actually free from the myriad of complex natural forces in this world if you look into it closely.
There's a third alternative though. That the future, at any given point in time, is randomly generated. You cannot know what will happen in the future because even the universe doesn't know that since fate doesn't exist. And surely the future is not determined by personal choices alone.
This may sound incompatible with the phenomenology of causality. But frankly who takes causality seriously in this day and age.
