To be honest, almost all things that happen in Japan are ignored by the rest of the world. Apart of that PM that was killed, you will not hear most of what happen in Japan. They are an isolated but highly-technological society that do not need the world. I guess it is more about the geographics, but also about their culture.

I think I watched a podcast where Spaniards living there where they explained that even news do not tend to massify this kind of info.
