My family lived during some sort of Socialist with added Nationalism regime (not full NatSoc) and they said it was the best time.

This was after 1950's. Around 1970's to 90's

They saw building being built and every male was forced to join the army or work.

Every male after army had to get married and children were coming in at good birth rates.


Now? Everything has gone to shit and the same buildings from that era remain here to this day. And no it wasnt Communism as I said, it was more of National Socialist type of system even though it wasnt actually like hitlers, just a slight adaptation of it on a small country scale.

Dont say it was Communism because in my grandparents experience it was far from it. Maybe its different for your country, but even my mother said it was a better time.

I am not saying that I want those types of things to come back, and there is no way I will ever be in support of Communism. I am just saying that National Socialism worked in my Grandparents opinion

Communism in the long run is completely unsustainable. Chinese politicians figured this out in the 70s and gulaged actual communists en masse and switched from Maoism to market economy. Soviet Union managed to struggle along by abusing international help, taking loans to pay for other loans and receiving free stuff from the West. Cold War was always just a farce. Both sides needed each other to justify the overblown military spending, destruction of civil liberties and pointless military interventions in other countries. The moment West no longer needed the USSR is the moment Soviet Union collapsed under its own weight. Funny thing is, the ex-communists are still in power in most of Eastern Europe. They just reinvented themselves as oligarchs and democratic politicians.

In communism, almost any man could marry a young fertile woman and have children. Apartment, car, marriage, children and vacations were pretty much guaranteed. You didn't need to work particularly hard either.

All of my family lived a rather cosy life in communism and that's despite being religious and suspicious to the regime.

Even for the men who were undesirable by women for whatever reason, the regime tried to work something out, give them a place in society.
