If someone says that they think looks matter

A normal person who disagrees would tell them that they disagree and then tell them why they think that the person is wrong for thinking looks matter

But because we live in a world where looks do matter

The average person in their life has treated someone badly due to their looks before and treats everyone they know based off their looks

So saying that looks matter is like calling out for all the things they've done and treating people depending on their looks is something they don't want to admit to because treating someone a certain way due to their looks isn't in their moral code but because they've contradicted their moral code this is why they go ballistic when they hear someone say that looks matter cuz it affects their ego cuz then they think to themselves that they're a bad person which they are

Humans in general don't like that things that are out of their control can make their lives so much worse. It's easier for humans to accept that it was their own fault and that things could have been different. It's why when AI cars are safer than human ones, people still think driving it themselves is safer despite statistics showing otherwise. (or some similar metaphor, forgot what it was).
