It became more known on manosphere sites in mid 2019 before the pandemic tbh
But the media articles about onlyfans serving as essentially product placement ads before and during the pandemic wouldn't be surprising.

Wasn't the site originally for actual artist and content creators who made stuff for paying fans? hence only fans?
Pretty sure it had to do more with patron cracking down on hoes being hoes so they just turned to onlyfans because they wouldn't be breaking tos on that site and it gave more money.
