The 2023 World series of poker main event is live right now!

What's even the appeal in poker anyway

it can be fun and an okay cope if you know what youre doing and not a degenerate gambler.

you get a good dopamine hit from winning a decent sized pot.

it is the only game I recommend at all in the casino just because it can take longer for you to lose your money whereas with other games, it can be quite fast.

its also interesting watching the pros play. notice how theyre all folding for the most part even with okay hands. they'll only stay (and test them) when there is only one other person still in the pot.

Imagine watching other gamble. Imagine watching other people gamble with more money than most of the world makes in a year.

At least it’s not problem gambling like slots if someone’s solid with number crunching, running simulators, and memorizing proper charts. Watching shit like OP can be labeled as a waste of time if you’re not learning from their potential mistakes.

It appeals to aspie types who like numbers and odds (w/the chance to gain money in the process), or degen normies who like the psychological/social aspect if live.

Do you play at those stakes against those players?

Ohh yeaa. This is the main event. The big one.

I'm gonna use this as motivation to play some poker this weekend at the casino. Good times.
Do you have any interesting stories of Poker? Any techniques you have used to succeed?

The most reliable strategy that I found when I used to play a lot, is simply to fold a lot and be very VERY patient. Over time you will go up. So what if you have a dry spell of 5-7hrs and are up only $30. In the long run I found this strategy to be the most reliable for making money.

The losers/degenerate gamblers are the ones that go into the pot with shitty hands (and there are a couple of players or several players also in the pot) trying to get lucky. Say, 66 spades/clubs for example.

Only go in with semi decent hands when youre going heads up against somebody or if youre feeling lucky, two other players in the pot including you.

Thank you for the advice, namely on patience. This will be useful if I ever play it in real life. Poker is a good interest because of the strategy involved and how you can actually come out on top if you develop good enough skills.

Nah, but the point I was trying to make is that poker is a skill game in the longterm. The sharks in regulated events got lucky with genetics when it comes to mental power, self-control, willpower to study a ton, etc. Playing there without those qualities is financial suicide. It’s best to just leave it as a hobby for most gamblers since the effort to excel in poker is much harder than it was circa 2005.

NIT moment, literally the most predictable player ever.

Poker is a waste of time. It's a great mental exercise to learn the mathematics, but the time and energy investment is not worth the return.

Ngl, the effort required to make serious money there would be better spent working in other fields. Many other avenues in life take less effort for more money and less tilt.

It’s kinda based if some otherwise god-tier mind incel lives like a parasite by legally dominating the poker scene. It’s like statistical robbery.
