In the real world surely the main priority tends to be just financial success and security, especially for men.

Telling people to "just follow their dreams" is a bit irresponsible I think because you may well be just setting them up for poverty, at which point I highly doubt the person who gave them that amazing advice will be there to cover their food and medical bills.

Yes, it is financial success and security, and yes, "following your dreams" is more on the feminine side. In reality the only people who can follow their dreams are those who sacrifice everything - friends, family, social life, free time - EVERYTHING, and the people who have rich families and don't have any financial worries, which means they can use their free time to pursue their interests and passions.

It is 100% irresponsible to tell people to follow their dreams. This is why many guidance counsellors in schools need to be fired. They misguide and delude so many students.
