I would agree with you if we were talking about a relationship 60 or so years in the past (where you'd be dating a virgin who would cook and clean for you), but the modern day relationship is pretty much transactional and lacks any true "commitment"

This is a very good point and I've seen this a hell of a lot over the years. Every relationship I've seen happen within my friend circle has only ever been somewhat stable if the man has been 2-3 points above the girl in looks.
A friend of mine is a Chad but had a girl who was a 6-7 and she bowed down to his every wish and he could do whatever he wanted without her complaining at all. Whenever the same guy has been with a Stacey it's been a nightmare for him.
