Yet another water is wet study (kinda). Also my title is a bit dramatic and clickbaity. The gist of it is that mating is concealed in society because it makes males jealous and destroys the fabric of society.

I introduce the cooperation maintenance hypothesis, which postulates that humans, and a specific category of non-human species, conceal matings to prevent sexual arousal in witnesses (proximate explanation). This allows them to simultaneously maintain mating control over their partner(s) and cooperation with group members who are prevented from mating (ultimate explanations).

Notice the "group members who are prevented from mating", aka the incels and low tier males. Knowing how good some people have it while you have nothing makes you bitter and unwilling to cooperate.
