In this study from 2009, 355 female undergraduates (college foids, not teenagers) participated in a study that surveyed if and how often they had rape fantasies. Results indicated that 62% of women have had a rape fantasy, For women who have had rape fantasies, the median frequency of these fantasies was about 4 times per year, with 14%of participants reporting that they had rape fantasies at least once a week. The women in the study:
participants filled out a "Sexual fantasy checklist", then a "sexual fantasy log" where participants had to write a sexual fantasy that they had which involved sexual aggresion or sexual coercion against them. Then they were asked questions about the beginning, middle, and end of the fantasy, the description of the characters in the fantasy (oh boy) how they would rate the fantasy's sexual arousal on a scale of 0 to 4, how unconsenting they were in the fantasy, how attractive the perpetrator was, etc.
There was no misunderstanding about what qualified as rape, "rape fantasy" was described as:
for the first question, "do you fantasize about being overpowered or forced by a man to surrender sexually against your will":
The aversive (unwanted) rape fantasies (9% of the fantasies) were usually brief in description, the other rape fantasies, the more erotic and "enjoyable" ones, were two to three times longer than the unwanted ones. The aversive fantasies had a "dark alley" pattern, the woman imagined a scene where they were attacked and raped while in a situation like walking alone to her car or sleeping alone in her apartment. In all aversive rape fantasies, the self-character’s expression of non-consent was genuine, and this is in sharp contrast to the erotic rape fantasies. In nearly all aversive rape fantasies, the self-character remained resistant throughout the fantasy, which again was more common in aversive than in erotic rape fantasies. In over half of aversive rape fantasies, the perpetrator was either a stranger or ‘‘faceless.’’ Although the perpetrator was a relative in 18% of aversive fantasies, the perpetrator was never a relative in the other two types of rape fantasy. - 22% of fantasies contained being pushed
- 24% of fantasies contained the woman pushing the rapist/perpetrator away
- 49% of fantasies were initially resistant, later willing
- 12% of fantasies were initially willing, later resistant
- 35% of fantasies were resistant throughout the entire fantasy
- 46% of fantasies imagined the perpetrator as an ex-partner or current partner (remember 90% of participants were single)
- 21% of fantasies imagined the perpetrator as a stranger
- 14% of fantasies imagined the perpetrator as an acquaintance
- 50% of fantasies imagined vaginal intercourse being consensual at some point in the fantasy
- 30% of fantasies contained consensual kissing at some point in the fantasy
- 23% of fantasies contained non-consensual kissing in the fantasy
- 38% of the women felt positive or glad to have the fantasy
- 33% had negative and guilty feelings about the fantasy
- 28% had both positive and negative feelings about the fantasy.
