Informal Polygamy:
To finish off, I want to talk about the current state of hypergamy and polygamy in our modern western world, which is quite different from historical examples. For instance, while Islam permits polygyny, it also places restrictions and discourages it in some ways. There are some rules to it thus making it a more controlled practice compared to what we see today. I’m not saying it’s ideal, but it is better than the current situation.

The Qur'an (4:3): "Marry those that please you of [other] women, two, or three, or four. But if you fear that you will not be just, then [marry only] one or those your right hand possesses. That is more suitable that you may not incline [to injustice]."

Here, justice refers to treating all wives equally, including providing financial support and whatnot. This requirement makes polygyny in Islam a bit more challenging because it requires commitment and resources. In contrast, in today’s society, women are easily financially independent and there's no need for commitment, and hookup culture is rampant, so in our current times polygamy is not through marriages like in the past but through relationships and hookups.

This is far worse than historical polygamy because it lacks commitment and consequences and is also primarily based on looks. A chad can fuck multiple women, and satisfy their sexual needs without any long-term responsibility, and terms like FWB are an example of this kind of stuff. This is a direct result of hypergamy and it's essentially the modern equivalent of polygamy. This causes multiple problems; the women who get to fuck chad will not forget him, he will become their new benchmark and they will compare any man in the future to him. And, much like traditional polygamy this leads to a rise of men who are excluded.
