Neolithic hunter gatherer societies lived in tribes of about 60. Obvioulsy there would be a powerful male chieftan with multiple wives but the rest of foids were up for grabs by the males. There's this persistent belief today that people were fucking everyone in the stone age, this is not true. A promiscuous ooga-foid would be ostracized and shunned (which in those times resulted in literal death). Why? Well, because there was no birthcontrol so having sex was pretty much equal to becoming pregnant (which was very dangerous back then), which brings us to the issue of paternal uncertainty. If a foid slept around, there was no way to determine the paternity of the baby. Obviously, being a very patriarchal society, the men wanted to know if the child (especially a son) was their heir. So hoeing around was forbidden. A man, whether he was a hunter, a cave-painter or a shaman could get a woman easily, in many cases probably assigned by the chieftan. Imagine hunting and fishing in the day and cosying up with a bearskin-dressed foid by the cave-fire at night. No Tinder, no porn, no video games. Just being a human being in the ancestral environment that our brains were developed for.
