This applies to any working incel, I'm targeting STEMcels in particular because I know how accustomed they are to "coasting" through jobs. The point I'm about to make holds for everyone though. This post is also written with the European market in mind, YMMV if you're a UScel.
Most STEMcels that I know, especially those working in IT, are used to seeing their jobs as an easily replaceable commodity. They graduated into a market that was hungry for young STEM grads and had companies fawning over their resumes. As a consequence, they are used to doing the bare minimum while on the job, confident in their unfireability. After all, STEM grads are a rare resource, one that companies cannot allow to let go.
Let me tell you: this is about to change. Of all the bad things that Corona-chan has brought upon us, one of the worst ones is that employers are starting to realise that, while an IT/R&D/whatever-you-do sector is necessary, it isn't that necessary. As their earnings diminish, they'll realise that amassing and overpaying STEM grads like a soyboy with Funko Pops isn't the most viable business strategy. Massive layoffs will come in the following months.
If you are a STEMcel, this is the time to bring your A-game to the table. Stop showing up every day visibly drunk at 10:30am. Stop dicking around on YouTube with your company laptop. Stop treating your clients as if they are the ones doing you a favour by bringing their business to you.
You may not like your job, but your life without it will be worse. Distressed companies don't hire people on a whim and distressed governments don't hand out NEETbuxx to everyone.
Do your best to keep your job. When the recession hits, you'll be glad you did.
