People in general really believe or want to believe that. They really think that the world is fair. They believe that there is someone for everyone because it feels nice. Believing in "just world fallacy" is comforting.
I used to hate seeing normies comments when an incel discuss his undesirability, but going deeper through the discussions you can see that they really believe that we have a chance.

That's why they start attacking and insulting because we are challenging their world views. It's very discomforting to believe that some men can never succeed no matter how hard they try or the amount of effort they put on. That's why they are always accusing us of not trying hard enough because to them it's unusual to try everything and still fail. It's doesn't feel good to believe that there are some men out there who are just unappealing to women and nobody will show romantic interest in them.

Tbh i think the number of these men is relatively small. I would argue that many men who believe they are in that category of men actually aren't, and some of them are users posting here.
