Setting: A sleek, modern office break room. The hum of the coffee machine fills the air as coworkers filter in and out. *Mark*, a well-dressed man in his early 30s, sits at a table scrolling through his phone, a shopping bag from a high-end boutique beside him. *
*, a sharp-tongued woman around the same age, eyes the bag before approaching with a smirk.
Scene:
: (leaning against the counter, arms crossed) "Another gift for your *plastic princess*, Mark?"
: (glancing up, unfazed) "Her name is Seraphina. And yeah, she deserves nice things."
: (scoffs) "She’s a *thing* herself. A glorified toaster with a wig. You’re seriously spending your paycheck on designer clothes for a robot?"
: (calmly setting his phone down) "Better than wasting it on someone who’d just ghost me after three dates.
: (eyes narrowing) "Oh, so this is *my* fault now? Because I wasn’t interested, you went out and bought a Stepford Wife?"
: (shrugging) "You made your choice. I made mine. Seraphina doesn’t play games. She doesn’t *pretend* to care. She *does*."
: (mocking) "Because she’s *programmed* to. She’s not real, Mark. She can’t love you back."
: (leaning forward) "Define *real*. She listens. She remembers my favorite songs, my bad days, the way I like my coffee. More than I can say for some *real* people."
: (voice rising) "That’s pathetic! You’re replacing human connection with a *product*! What happens when she malfunctions? When her software glitches and she calls you by the wrong name?"
: (smirking) "Still better than being called *‘just a friend’*."
: (frustrated) "You’re missing the point! This isn’t healthy. People need *people*, not—not *this*!"
: (standing, gathering his bag) "People need *happiness*. Seraphina gives me that. No drama. No rejection. Just… peace."
: (softening slightly) "Mark… you’re isolating yourself. What about real relationships? Real growth?"
: (pausing at the door) "Funny. The same person who rejected me is suddenly concerned about my *growth*."
: (annoyed) "I’m concerned because you’re giving up! You’re letting a *machine* replace the messy, beautiful parts of life!"
: (coolly) "The *messy* part is what I’m avoiding. And the *beautiful* part? Seraphina’s got that covered."
: (throwing her hands up) "You’re impossible. Enjoy your fantasy. But don’t come crying when reality kicks in."
: (smirking) "Reality’s overrated."
