So @aswellfella made a poll on shoplifting in Roblox. I told him I had experience in it, and thought of one day creating a guide. So here it is. I was going to make a long post mentioning my detailed exploits but it'll make the post long. Also this post is mainly for US Roblox shoplifters, but the info could still be applied to people in other countries.
Clearing up common misconceptions: So first off shoplifting (specifically petty shoplifting) from big chain is easy. Most chains have a no chase, no touch policy as that increases the chances of danger and lawsuits. Some of them will try to stop shoplifters but those that they go after will mainly be those who are trying to take a large amount, like a shopping cart full of merch. For instance, Target does go after shoplifters but they'll go for those that took more than $50. So if you take less than that they won't even confront you.
Another large misconception is thinking you'll beep as you walk out because of the bar code on your item. The bar codes have nothing to do with setting off the alarm towers, those are just used to pay. These are what sets off the alarm towers
If your item has these strips on them then they will set off the alarm towers. So if you ever see these items on your product you can either cut through them (from what I heard never tried it) or wrap the product in a faraday fabric to stop the frequency from setting off the tower. If your item doesn't have these tags or any other common EAS tags you can walk out with the item with no attention from the towers.
BUT BUT BUTBUT ITS A SERIOUS CRIME!!!! LAW ENFORCEMENT WILL MOST LIKELY NOT GET INVOLVED IF IT'S PETTY. If the employees catch you they'll ask for the items back and ban you. Unless you tried taking a very large amount.
My Experience: Most of my trips were petty, like less than $50 petty, which means most stores won't be emboldened to attempt to stop me. And the items were usually compact so I just pocketed it. But sometimes my trips weren't very petty, I think the most I took from a store on one trip was $300+. And sometimes my items weren't compact, I took this item that was in a box I couldn't just put down my puffy coat, I put it in a faraday laptop bag and walked out holding the bag. I've even walked out with the product fully visible on my hands. I've even shoplifted with employees trying to scare me off with mean looks. I've even had loss prevention try to stop me, he yelled out "STOP!" and I ran out.
My Advice: Always go to big chain stores because they usually won't get violent with you. I worked for a local a grocery store and they would threaten shoplifters, one homeless guy got threatened with a stun gun. If you're going to shoplift keep it petty and make it fast. Petty so if you get caught they probably won't get law enforcement on you, and fast so employees can't try to stop you. Don't be someone who is in one store for 30 minutes, I think most of my trips didn't last 10 minutes. And don't be someone who pockets all these items and goes up just to buy gum to mask the fact that you're stealing, that gives employees more of a chance to confront you. My advice is once you pocket or bag your products walk out. If employees or loss prevention try confronting you as you walk out don't stop for them, walk or run out the lot.
