An African-American woman from the United States has been left stranded in Pakistan after her plans to marry a man she met online fell through.

Onijah Andrew Robinson, 33, flew to Karachi in October last year to marry 19-year-old Nidal Ahmed Memon, but shortly after her arrival, Memon’s family refused to approve the marriage, leaving her in a difficult situation.

Robinson, whose tourist visa has now expired, was left with nowhere to stay. She went to Memon’s home in the Garden area, only to find it locked and the family had vacated the property, The Express Tribune reported.

Following this, Robinson staged a sit-in outside the house and took shelter in the building’s parking area. Her actions caught the attention of locals and made headlines across the country.

Despite receiving help from a non-governmental organisation (NGO), which offered her a return ticket to the United States and financial support, Robinson chose to remain in Pakistan.
