I think the best thing to do in this situation would be to give the person life in prison, and give them the option of suicide/assistedsuicide/euthanasia if they choose(it's costly and pointless to keep someone imprisoned for that long, and it's a good alternative to a death sentence as it would ultimately be their choice).
